- National Museum of History: National Historical and Cultural Artifacts Digital Collection Project
Digitalized collection includes relevant information of artifacts, paintings and calligraphy, publication and films. Digital Museum digitalizes and preserves various artifacts, paintings, calligraphy and documents through high resolution scanning and photographing. Digital collection can save space, prevent the data from damage, and is convenient to transmit and explain. Corroborating with functions like intellegent search, internet search, display of educational topics, we hope to provide the public a space for sharing and learning information and resources.
- Establishing Metadata and Index of Historical and Cultural Artifacts
We study the various categories of artifacts in the museum's collection and research for the most proper format to describe data: the format includes age, category, shape, function, technique, pattern, style, form, material, topic and content of each and every artifact. We aim to establish metadata for historical and cultural artifacts and, following the second sub-project, build up an intelligent multimedia database for these artifacts. With the increase of the content data in the database and the support from the procedure of the artifact image data in digital collection, the Project can provide complete media and research resource of history and culture to content and added-value industries.
- The Project of Establishing Intelligent Multimedia Database of Historical and Cultural Artifacts
We establish a complete research-based database for the museum; the most important issues in our research includes the establishment of multimedia database, the intelligent information search service, and the promotion of integration of similar databases from domestic museums, research institutions, and government institutions. The content of this project includes image management system, document analysis system, character identification system, fault-tolerant search system, automatic keyword acquisition system, advancement of image management technology, intelligent search interface, search system for multimedia information, and evaluation and enhancement of database efficiency.
- The Project of Establishing the System for Digitalizing Data of Historical and Cultural Artifacts
In this sub-project we prepare for the digitalization of research results of museum collection and documents. We establish a mechanism to collect, categorize, and integrate original data of the past, present, and future. We establish SOP for digitalization of museum collection, design and construct the structure of the management and digitalization of artifact data, plan spaces for publicizing the research results; we also establish website for professional researchers to collect the digital information produced in the future. The procedure of digitalizing museum collection and the management system can be divided into three sections according to the functions of Intranet:
(1) management of information system and acquisition of information
(2) integration of domestic museums to establish a digital database
(3) establishment of interactive exchange of information and on-line payment procedure for the use of information
